“KIDS’ SEA CAMP” WITH SHIRLEY BROWN
Aggressor Fleet is expanding its popular family “Kids’ Week” diving charters into “Kids’ Sea Camp” vacations hosted by Shirley Brown, an underwater photographer with an education and marine environment background. The seven-day onboard program includes five hours of supervised activity for
children each day, while parents enjoy diving the exciting Aggressor sites. Activities include snorkeling and fish identification—using SASY and conventional equipment—beach combing, seashore creature identification, plankton sampling with a microscope, underwater photography and introduction to local
cultures.
Shirley and her husband, Hal, have operated a dive shop, taught diving and managed live-aboard dive boats in the Bahamas, Belize, and the Caribbean. An accomplished photographer, she used this skill to teach local island children the wonders of the marine environment. Her success with the island children
encouraged her to organize youth programs at the local college and art schools in Panama City Beach, Florida, and she has taught within the Florida Bay County School system. The programs involved the local underwater and land environment. With an art school background, a camera, and tremendous knowledge of
sea creatures, she introduces children and senior adults to the marine world. The Panama City Marine Institute, a school for at risk teenagers, values Shirley’s fun teaching skills and assistance with the on going reef-building program. She is a spokesperson and volunteer for the local turtle watch, sea
grass and wetlands preservation and is vice-president of the Panama City Dive Club.
